GRID AIR HOCKEY
The Future of Air Hockey
Product design and branding for “GRID AIR HOCKEY,” a reimagined version of the classic arcade game built around strategy, customization, and learning. In response to the growing educational focus of parents, the project reframed air hockey—long a staple of arcades—as a form of play that cultivates both thinking and physical skill.
The design introduced a grid-patterned base where players could freely place obstacle “blocks” to create original stages. Seven types of “smashers,” each with different traits, allowed players to set handicaps and customize matches.
This system created a level of freedom and expandability not found in conventional arcade games. Evolving into a new form of “edutainment,” it has since been installed in about 50 locations nationwide, including Aeon Mall’s “Molly Fantasy” amusement centers.
エアホッケーの未来形
知育性を備えた新しいエアホッケー「GRID AIR HOCKEY」のプロダクトデザインとブランディング。保護者の教育志向の高まりを背景に、ゲームセンターで長く親しまれてきた体感ゲームを、思考力と身体性の両方を育む遊びとして再構築しました。
方眼模様のベース上に、障害物となる「ブロック」を自由に配置でき、プレイヤーがオリジナルのステージをつくれる仕組みを導入。さらに特性の異なる7種類の「スマッシャー」によって、ハンディキャップ設定や試合ごとのカスタマイズを可能にしました。
このシステムにより、従来のアーケードゲームにはなかった自由度と拡張性を実現。戦略性と身体性を育む新しい「知育」ゲームとして進化し、全国のイオンモール内アミューズメント施設「Molly Fantasy」をはじめ、約50店舗に導入されました。
