MATSUSHIMA
Weaving Tradition and Modernity
Rebranding for “Matsushima,” a comprehensive imported car dealership based in Kyoto. While inheriting the trust built over many years, the project aimed to establish a renewed brand image that more vividly conveys the refined experiences brought by imported automobiles.
The logo draws inspiration from the sounds of “MATSU” and “SHIMA,” combining two traditional Japanese patterns: the checkered ichimatsu motif and vertical stripes. The ichimatsu pattern evokes checkered racing flags as well as the grid-like streets of Kyoto, while the vertical stripes suggest medals, pathways, and an upward sense of progression.
In the poster design, the dealership’s “service quality” is visualized as a “veil of the logo” that envelops the car. As a multi-brand dealership, the expression deliberately avoids reliance on any single model, instead highlighting the overall corporate presence and the sense of renewal achieved through rebranding.
伝統とモダニティを紡ぐ
京都の総合輸入車ディーラー「マツシマ」のリブランディング。長年培ってきた信頼を継承しながら、輸入車がもたらす洗練された体験をより鮮明に伝えるための新たなブランド像を構築しました。
ロゴは「MATSU」と「SHIMA」という響きから着想を得て、日本の伝統文様である市松模様と縦縞模様を組み合わせてデザイン。市松はチェッカーフラッグや京都の碁盤目の街路を想起させ、縦縞は勲章のリボンや道、そして上昇感を表現しました。
ポスターでは、ディーラーの提供する「サービスクオリティ」を、車を包み込む「ロゴのヴェール」として可視化。複数のブランドを扱う総合ディーラーとして、特定の車種に依らずに、企業全体の存在感とリブランディングによる刷新感を鮮やかに表現しました。
