The Branch｜Forms and Origins

What Forms Tell Us

Created in my third year at university, “The Branch: Forms and Origins” was an editorial design project inspired by the intriguing shapes of branches. The aim was to craft a book that celebrates the richness of plant forms while exploring the curiosity behind their origins.

Photographs of trees and plants were adjusted to monochrome to accentuate their structure. As readers turn the pages, they can appreciate the diverse shapes of branches while accompanying texts reveal the stories of their formation, offering an immersive experience of nature’s wonder.

Every detail—from titles and headings to body text and object placement—was carefully considered through the lens of writing space design. The choice of paper and hand-bound finish further enhanced the work’s presence, earning it recognition in the Graphic Division of the Epson Imaging Award.

かたちが語るもの

大学3年時に制作した、エディトリアルデザイン作品「枝 かたち なりたち」。枝の形の面白さに心を引かれ、植物の豊かな「かたち」を楽しみ、その「なりたち」への好奇心を満たす一冊を目指しました。

樹木や植物をカメラで写し取り、造形を際立たせるためにモノトーンに調整。ページをめくりながら枝の多様な形を楽しみ、添えられた文章でその成り立ちに触れることで、枝の不思議と多彩な魅力を体感できる構成としました。

さらに、タイトルや見出し、本文、オブジェクトの配置に至るまで「Writing Space Design」の繊細さを追求。紙質にもこだわり、製本まで手作業で仕上げた本作は、Epson Imaging Award グラフィック部門で入賞を果たしました。
