Order and Freedom in Session

Artwork for the long-established jazz club “BODY&SOUL,” founded in 1974 and widely regarded as a pioneer of Japan’s jazz live house culture. Tucked away on a backstreet off Omotesando’s Kotto-dori, the venue has long drawn devoted listeners.

The theme, “Session of Order and Freedom,” reflects the essence of jazz: a shared melody provides structure, while each player’s individuality and improvisation create variations that exist only in that moment.

Piano keys form the central motif. While preserving the recognizable silhouette of a keyboard, the black and white keys were rearranged and reconstructed—visualizing the spark that emerges within a framework. The result evokes the richness of the music, the space, and the one-of-a-kind sessions that unfold night after night.

秩序と自由のセッション

1974年創業、日本のジャズ・ライブハウス文化の草分けとして知られる老舗ジャズクラブ「BODY&SOUL」のためのアートワーク。表参道・骨董通りから一本入った路地に佇むこの空間は、長年にわたり多くの音楽ファンを惹きつけてきました。

テーマである「秩序と自由のセッション」は、ジャズの本質から着想を得たものです。共有された旋律という秩序の上に、それぞれの演奏者の個性や即興が重なり、その瞬間にしか生まれない変奏が立ち上がります。

モチーフにはピアノの鍵盤を採用。鍵盤としての原型を保ちながら、黒鍵と白鍵を再構成することで、構造の中からひらめきが立ち上がる瞬間を視覚化しました。音楽の豊かさ、空間の気配、そして夜ごとに紡がれる一期一会のセッションを想起させる表現としています。
